The Bloodgood has a symetrical, upright habit, a globose canopy and layered branches. 5 lobed red/purple leaves are accompanied by red flowers in the spring and turn a bright crimson in the fall before shedding. Its muscular trunk stands out in the winter months. Lower branches can be thinned. Japanese Maple trees are not recommended for the middle of a front yard as they need to be protected from the wind.
